So far the month of December has been ridiculously exciting for Be Nice Bagel Company! I have spent the past week working on my new cranberry-orange bagel (SO DELICIOUS) and preparing for our move from my home into The Porch's commercial kitchen space. I am so excited for all the new possibilities of working in a larger kitchen! Come by and I will also fix you up a hot latte! The move will happen in the next couple weeks, and I hope y'all will come down to The Porch to hang out with me while I make you a cup of coffee and bring you a bagel or delicious breakfast taco!

Another big and exciting change is that, due to the move I am doing away with our Wednesday Pick Up in exchange for a Monday morning delivery service! Every Thursday, you can place your order for bagels and I will bring them to your house on Monday morning. You can find more details about this on our Monday Delivery page, including sign up information, so please check it out! Monday is always my least favorite day of the week, but having a fresh Be Nice Bagel for breakfast can start things off right!

Back at the end of October my husband and I ran the Marine Corps Marathon in DC. My husband served as a Marine and in general is a beast of a man so this was 4th marathon and my first. It was truly an amazing experience! The only downside to the race was that we had to miss the Krankies Halloween party, which was a bummer...but that gives us more time to work on our costumes for next year! The marathon is put on by the Marines and the course runs through all of the highlights of Washington. We began our race day with a few Be Nice Bagels and a very cold subway ride out to the starting line. The scenery was incredible but nothing was more beautiful then running next to men and women who sacrificed so much for our country. There are veterans running with prosthetic limbs and moms running on behalf of their children who lost their lives in action. The most memorable race moment for me happened at about mile 8. There is a fairly steep hill that quickly becomes a sharp turn. I was jogging (slowly) up the hill when I started to hear everyone yell and cheer a little bit louder...I know what I look like when I run and how slow I move so I was very much aware of the fact that the cheering was NOT for me. I turned around to see a paraplegic veteran pedaling a handcycle up this hill. I'm not sure if you have ever seen a handcycle but it looks like the most challenging way to complete a race. This man was going to pedal his bodyweight for 26.2 miles using only his hands! The whole crowd turned their attention and energy to cheering for him and runners began jogging in place while yelling and encouraging him until he reached the top! It was an awesome celebration of this man's sacrifice and his triumph, and certainly put things in perspective as I had just been mentally complaining about the slightest cramp in my leg. Immediately following that moment I saw a spectator's sign that said "Run with Gratitude." This set tone for the rest of the race. In light of all of these veterans who sacrificed so much for our country and the men and women injured during the Boston Marathon Bombing I couldn't help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the fact that I was able to run and finish the race. I am blessed indeed and hope to always remember to run with gratitude!

Dinners and Bagels at The Porch
Y'all...I am SO EXCITED about what is happening down in West End. I already told you about my love for Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company, and soon we are going to have an incredible new restaurant called The Porch. I have tried some of their food and it literally rocked my world! The shrimp tacos are AMAZING and their frito pie will make you want to slap yo' mama! They are going to have great food, awesome beer, and killer cocktails. Also, I am going to be their new barista! Don't worry, I will still be baking lots of bagels. I am actually going to share a portion of their kitchen, which will give me the capacity to bake more bagels for y'all! You will also be able to buy fresh Be Nice Bagels at The Porch, in addition to my other customer locations around town. Make sure you stop in and grab a bagel or breakfast taco with your coffee!  I'm so excited for the chance to work with such awesome people. Stay tuned to find out more about their official opening, and check out the pictures below of their progress! If you want to see more, please follow them on instagram @theporchws.

A Whole Lot of Excitement...

Two weeks ago at the Cobblestone Farmers Market, a very nice gentleman came and started a conversation with me regarding my bagels. He asked a few questions about my company and product and then asked where I was currently selling them. This is very common so I didn't think anything of it...but then he told me he was from Whole Foods and he was interested in bringing Be Nice Bagel Co to the Whole Foods shelves and bakery in Winston Salem. WHAT?! That has been a longtime goal of mine so you can imagine my excitement. I couldn't stop smiling all day! Whole Foods then posted this Facebook comment to ask people what they thought of Be Nice Bagels. We were overwhelmed by the response and encouragement from y'all! The post is still on their Facebook page so if you have some time please keep the "likes" and comments coming! I will keep you posted on what is in store for us next with Whole Foods. YAY!

There are lots of fun new things happening in the early life of Be Nice Bagel Company and I really want to share all them with y'all. Check out my weekly blog to learn more about new locations now selling Be Nice Bagel Company (BNB) bagels and exciting changes to our company.

This week I was so overjoyed to announce that Camino Bakery is now providing BNB bagels to their customers! My first delivery was Wednesday and it was the highlight of my week. We are so thankful for their business and support and I am obsessed with Camino so it is an incredible honor to have my bagels there! Make sure you stop in and try a bagel with your hot coffee!

On November 1st we will be providing breakfast to all the participants in the Old Salem Sporting Clays Open! We are really stoked to be a part of this and so thankful to Wilson-Covington and Old Salem for including us. It is not too late to sign up! You can register through the Old Salem website and all proceeds will be used to support Old Salem Museum and Gardens.  In addition to the tournament you will receive a great bagel breakfast, bbq lunch and a t-shirt. It's an awesome deal!

Be Nice Bagel Company recently started selling bagels at the Cobblestone Farmer's Market in Old Salem. My husband Cooper and I set up a booth every Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm and we have so enjoyed getting to know everyone who works there and all of our customers! It is such a fun, beautiful and friendly market. If you have not been yet please come and see what it is all about. They have great vendors :) , live music and it is right in the heart of Old Salem. BNB will not be at the market this week but normal bagel deliveries and hours will resume on Tuesday morning. I am sad we are missing the market on what is predicted to be the coldest day in market history!
